Hello everyone,
Here is a list of some upcoming events for October. Please check back often for further information on the events posted and to see if there are any new events. This month is still in the process of being planned, so expect many exciting new projects and events to be added here as time passes.
All Month
This month, Hannah Stromgren and Grayson Arango, the chapter's President and Vice President are organizing what is being called 'Inspiration Month'. It will consist of just over a month's worth of events, spanning from partway through October to partway through November. These events are being organized to promote success, motivation, and inspiration among SBCC students, faculty, and local high school students. Events range from guest speakers, film screenings, workshops, and discussions. Not only are Hannah and Grayson organizing this month of events, but they have also created a special event called Operation Inspiration that is meant to be the culmination of the month's goals. For more information on Inspiration Month's events and Operation Inspiration, see below. Inspiration Month events will be marked with an asterisk (*).

Phi Theta Kappa leaders, members, and hopefully fellow SBCC students will be banding together to pick up trash and recycling around campus in an effort to make our campus even more beautiful. We will be cleaning up trash on West Campus. You are welcome to join us for as much or as little time you have to offer. Any and all are invited to join us in making SBCC an even more beautiful campus. Please come and help us make a difference on our campus!
Movie Screening
6:00 pm, A211
Phi Theta Kappa will be collaborating on a movie screening with the Middle East Studies Club. You are all welcome to join us in viewing the movie David and Layla. This fictional depiction of a true story depicts a romance between a Jew and a Muslim in New York. The movie blends the difficulties of a Romeo and Juliet love affair with the religious conflicts of our current times. For more information on the film, visit http://www.davidandlayla.com/ . We hope you will join us for this thought-provoking, genre-blending film. Admission and popcorn are free.

Rwandan Genocide Survivor Lecture*

Phi Theta Kappa presents Frederick Ndabaramiye, a survivor of the Rwandan genocide. He will be coming to speak about his personal struggles and how he grew from them. We hope that his story will inspire you to grow as an individual and live your life giving back to others, just as he has. For more information, e-mail sbcc.ptk@gmail.com .
Sunday, October 17
Kayaking & Beach Day
11:00 am-1:00 pm, 1:00-2:30 pm
Please join us for the first of our two fellowship events of the month. Members of the PTK Leadership and members or the chapter will be coming together to kayak near the Santa Barbara Harbor. Kayaks cost $11/person and we have limited spaces available, so if you are interested in joining us for this event, please contact us immediately. This is a special event for members-only, so spaces are reserved for Beta Gamma Upsilon members.
Following the kayaking, we will be having lunch and games on the beach. Several members of the leadership will be picking up food from restaurants in town and delivering them to the beach for when the kayakers return. Possible restaurants include In-N-Out, Blenders, Taco Bell, Subway, and more. If you wish to join us for the lunch, please contact us so that you can participate in the vote on which restaurant(s) we get food from. You will be expected to pay for your own meal, but you will not be contributing to gas money or any other elements of the food's delivery.
Finally, coinciding with lunch we will be having a variety of beach games. Join us for frisbee, tag, 'duck-duck-sponge', and other fun beach festivities.
You are welcome to join us for any or all of the elements of this day. All of the leaders look forward to meeting you and we hope that we will have the chance to do so at this event.
